Coronavirus Death Toll in Europe is now more than 5000
Germany and Spain report a steep rise in infections, while California becomes the first US state to force a shutdown.
The death toll from the new coronavirus has passed 5,000 in Europe. The new epicentre of the pandemic – as Italy, Germany and Spain reported a steep rise in coronavirus infections.
aljazeera.com has currently reported that least 1,000 people have died in Spain so far from the COVID-19 disease, while the total number of infections in the country has reached almost 20,000.
It was also reported that the death toll from the coronavirus outbreak in Italy has been escalating in the last 24 hours to more than 3,400. This is basically overtaking the total number of deaths so far registered in China according to officials.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 209,000 people have been infected by the coronavirus globally and more than 8,700 have died.
On the other hand, at least 86,000 have recovered from COVID-19, according to data collected by the Johns Hopkins University in the United States.
