SASSA R350 Grants Latest News

SASSA has confirmed that it sent out a double payment for the R350 grant. Below is the reason why it has taken the decision and who qualifies. It is indeed good news to most of the grant beneficiaries.SASSA announced on Wednesday 22 July, that it would be making double payments of the R350 grant this week and some of the beneficiaries have already received their payments.

We believe it is so important for you to know why SASSA is issuing double payments and on what basis a beneficiary will receive payment.

SASSA Is Issuing Double Payments To These Beneficiaries

SASSA said it would start making double payments for outstanding June and July accounts this week. This basically means, if you didn’t get paid in June and July and you qualify for the R350 grant, you should be receiving a double payment of R700 by end of this month.

“This [is] meant to avoid a situation where beneficiaries of the COVID-19 social relief of distress grant have to make two trips to the Post Office and to eradicate the backlog of payments. The move was met with much appreciation and excitement on social media this morning,”  said SASSA.

How You Will Receive the SASSA R350 GRANT

According to SASSA, they have already started with payments for June and July and these are via transfers into the accounts of those who have bank accounts.

Those who use post office will receive the Payments progressively throughout the month. This is to try and limit the number of people at the post offices on a daily basis.

“Beneficiaries are reminded that they should only visit the post office once they have received an SMS saying their money has been paid in and is ready for collection,” it said.

According to The South African SASSA has also mentioned that reconsidered applications made in May due to updated databases which were received. This resulted in an additional one million applicants being approved for the R350 grant.

“This will drastically reduce the number of potential appeals and will also cushion the affected beneficiaries against the current impact of the lockdown,” SASSA added.

How Many Beneficiaries will be Paid Per Day

The Minister of Social Development Lindiwe Zulu said beneficiaries would be paid a single payment of R700 which will cover for two months.

She also explained that beneficiaries in batches of 500 000 would be paid per day to avoid overloading the system.

“Honourable Members, I would also like to inform this house that SASSA has commenced with the payment of applications received in May to those who still qualify for both June and July.”

“We will finalise these payments by the end of this month,” she added.

On Wednesday, SASSA said it has received over 7.8 million applications for the R350 grant.

“Of this number, we have approved over 4 million applications to whom just over one R1 7 000 000 will be disbursed,” they said.
